Cold is Cool Ski & Ride Passport Application

The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA) wants to give Michigan kids an opportunity to get out, have fun and get healthy this winter. This is why MSIA has established Cold is Cool, a state-wide program that provides every 4th and 5th grader the opportunity to ski for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Students can obtain a Cold is Cool Ski & Ride Passport that gives them up to three free lift tickets or trail passes to approximately 30 participating ski areas, plus additional discounts on the slopes and in Michigan ski shops. MSIA charges $25.00 for the passport (to cover app development and maintenance.) Complete rules and a list of participating ski areas and ski retailers is available here.

Here's how it works:

  1. Create a family login for the Cold is Cool Ski & Ride Passport so your 4th and/or 5th graders can ski for free all winter! Plus, you'll receive additional discounts from ski retailers and ski areas! Complete the information below to register as a parent/guardian.
  2. Follow the instructions to add your 4th and/or 5th graders, show proof of grade and pay for each child's passport. If you wish to pay with cash or check, fill out the Cold is Cool Application form and mail it to MSIA
  3. Download the Cold is Cool ID Card. Add your child’s information and affix photo on the card. Be sure to bring the card with you when you redeem the Passport offers at ski areas and shops.
  4. Once you have completed the application, you’ll receive a welcome email with a link to download the app (if you haven’t already), login instructions and information on redeeming the offers. It may take a few days before you receive the welcome email, since MSIA must confirm proof of grade. If you want immediate access to the Passport, please visit one of the great Michigan ski shops listed here, show proof of grade and receive a code to unlock access all at once. If you choose this option, wait until you obtain the code to fill out the application below.
