Cold is Cool Passport Application

The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA) wants to give Michigan kids an opportunity to get outside, have fun and be healthy this winter! Therefore, MSIA established Cold is Cool, a state-wide program that provides every 4th and 5th grader with the opportunity to ski for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Students can obtain a Cold is Cool Ski & Ride Passport that gives them up to three free lift tickets or trail passes to approximately 30 participating ski areas, plus additional discounts at the mountain and in Michigan ski shops. MSIA charges $30.00 for the passport; $22 covers operating expenses and $8 goes to MIsnow, a new charitable organization that helps get underprivileged kids out on our slopes & trails in the winter. MIsnow also works to preserve the strong cultural past of Michigan skiing and protect its future with sustainability education. Here's how it works:

  1. Create a family login for the Cold is Cool Ski & Ride Passport, as a parent/guardian, by completing the registration form below.
  2. Follow the instructions to add your 4th and/or 5th graders; upload a photo of your child that will act as their Passport ID (please make sure the photo clearly shows your child's face), upload proof of grade, and pay for each child's passport.
  3. Once you have completed the application, you'll receive a welcome email with a link to download the WinterKids mobile app (if you haven't already), login instructions and information on redeeming the offers. It may take a few days before you receive the welcome email, since MSIA must confirm proof of grade. If you want immediate access to the Cold is Cool Passport, please visit one of the great Michigan snowsports shops listed on this page, under the Shops for Immediate Access tab. You will need to show proof of grade and request a code to unlock immediate access to the Passport. If you choose this option, wait until you obtain the code to fill out the application below.
  4. The email address and password entered on this application will be the email and password used to sign into your passport account on the WinterKids mobile app.
